I have tried to create an extra  field for event websites.

When you add the URL, the form transposes the symbols < and > to > and <

It also set a <SPAN CLASS="text"> around the text.

This prevent a browser from display the url with link.  For example this

<a href="http://test.com/index.htm" TARGET="_self">Go</a>

is converted to this

<SPAN CLASS="text"><a href="http://test.com/index.htm" TARGET="_self">Go</a></span>

Has anyone solved this?

I have no idea what would cause that. Have you tried the script with a different browser to see if it's your browser causing the problem(s)?

I have no idea what that means. A link inside a <span> tag should work exactly the same as one outside such a tag.

** It also set a <SPAN CLASS="text"> around the text... is converted to this **

That will be in the template code and not added by the script. If you don't want the <span> tag in the script's output, edit the template file and remove it.
