Hello David,
I was contacted by my hosting company with the following message.  Apparently they're having problems with something happening with the calendar.cgi file:

Hello David,
We cannot allow you to run the “calendar.cgi” script on our servers.  Paul put it very lightly but the script wasn’t just running itself “multiple times” but it running approximately 400 times causing the load to go from .5 to 100+ and making the server unusable for other clients.  Also, this didn’t just occur one time, this occurred 2 times.  One of two things will need to be done before we can allow you to run this script:

  1. Replace the script with a properly functioning script
  2. Contact the maker of this script to figure out what could be causing this to happen and find a solution

The host company I use is Know it All Solutions, Inc. www.knowitallhosting.com.   They contacted me this week and tried to run it after shutting it down, but was still having the problem with the script.  I'm pretty sure they're OS is UNIX or LYNIX.  Any suggestions or solutions would be much appreciated.  I need this calendar back up soon...Thanks...

** Any suggestions or solutions would be much appreciated. **

Finding out whom the 400 users are would be a start. If you allow the calendar to be spidered by robots, the load could easily reach that amount considering the calendar.pl file runs each time any event link is activated.

A little research on your and/or your host's part will be required to isolate the cause so it can be attempted to be corrected.

What I'm being told by my hosting company today is that for some reason this script will not close after being accessed  causing itself to spawn over and over again and bringing the server to it's knees.  Could the calendar.cgi file be corrupt? Is this common?  I searched the forum, but couldn't find anything that relates...

**  Is this common? **

I've never heard of nor experienced it.

** Could the calendar.cgi file be corrupt? **

That might be a possibility?

Maybe try contacting Matt (CalendarScript's author) via email and see if he can suggest anything.
