I can run a CGI script written in Perl language with .pl extention or .cgi extention.Can anybody tell me what is the difference between a .pl file and .CGI file..I am using Linux OS , Appache web server and Internet explorer as the browser.

It depends on the way your particular server is set up, check with your host's support. In most cases there would be no difference.
