Is there a way to disable clicking on an event to take them to event information? We never have anything in the event information and that might clear up some confusion from our parents.

You'd have to design some sort of Perl conditional statement to only conditionally print the link code or not.

I have no idea of the exact code you'd use nor what you'd make the statement conditional on. Maybe some of the forum messages linked in the 'Links' section of the Unofficial CalendarScript - Mods and Plugins site will give you some ideas?
