Is there a way to edit or delete a single occurrance of a recurring event? We have recurring events every week, but would like to add unique comments to some of them.

The only way is to convert them to regular events then each would be editable separately or as a group. See the 'Split Recurring Event' plug-in at the Unofficial CalendarScript - Mods and Plugins site.
