I sure would like to know why the email address I submitted on this forum is now published in google.
It says: 'to email dennisoppelt' click on """"""""

signed, calendar script

what is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

-also, where can I delete my profile here? anyone know? I don't see it

I am ticked. I put my email address for users to respond to me in the forum, not for calendar script to publish my address on google so that a billion spam harvestors can use it.

Dennis, sites don't "publish" their information on Google. What really happens is the googlebots follow links on sites to wherever they lead. Since this is a public forum, the links for your profile are followed and indexed just like any other link.

That being said, it is a bit alarming to see "The email address for joeblow is joeblow@whatever.com" in a Google search of a username from this forum. I think it would be a good idea if the forum moderator enabled "noindex, nofollow" for personal information, or just put lines in your robots.txt to accomplish the same purpose. Just good general security practice, afaiac. It won't stop spam harvesters, Dennis, since they rarely honor the customary directives, but it will keep it off Google and the other legitimate search engines.

You can also click the "Profile" link above and disable public viewing of your email address. On the rare instances that another poster needs to contact you, that information can be conveyed by other means.

I stopped providing my personal email address in any forum profiles l-o-n-g ago after a disgruntled poster (in another forum) used the information to send worm-infected and flaming emails to every single forum member, numbering in the 10's of thousands.

That is precisely why I use a "junk email" address for forum posting. You can get all the free addresses you want on Yahoo! and HotMail. I only check mine for the occasional "activation link" messages I might be expecting that day, otherwise all messages go straight to the trash can since none of my legitimate contacts will ever use those addresses.
