Okay I'm digging up a really old thread here but, after much searching, I think this post tells me what I want to know.  Except that I don't understand it!

quote:
It is very trivial, though, to make it respond to any event by sending an email. Just copy the after_add_event.pl to after_edit_event.pl, and change the name of the function in the file to match.

This is exactly what I'm trying to do (trying to get EmailNotify to notify me when events are edited as well as when they're added.  Only I don't know enough about programming to understand what's written above.  Can anyone help me with this?  I believe it's saying make a duplicate of after_add_event.pl and rename it, but I don't understand the bit about changing the function.

Thanks to anyone who can offer help with this!

Phyllis

** Just copy the after_add_event.pl **

Copy the after_add_event.pl file (from the plug-in)

** to after_edit_event.pl **

Name that copy "after_edit_event.pl" (without the quotes) instead.

** change the name of the function in the file to match **

Open up that copied file and change the following line:

sub after_add_event() {

to:

sub after_edit_event() {

Thanks!  So easy when you know what you're doing.    For some reason, I thought I remembered changing my default template when I originally installed this plugin, but I guess that never happened.

At any rate, I ultimately discovered that I can't do what I was hoping to do with it.  Undecided  I was hoping to allow anonymous users to edit events that I had added on a recurring basis.  Then I thought I could approve the edits.  But it appears that only ADDITIONS go through the approval process.  So that didn't work anyway.  Oh well.

Thanks for your help,
Phyllis

** I was hoping to allow anonymous users to edit events ... Then I thought I could approve the edits. **

It might be possible to cause edited events to need approval afterward. But the edit would be done regardless, just the event removed from display until approved.

I have no idea what would be involved in such a modification, it would need to be investigated.

JFYI

Yeah probably too difficult.  The way our calendar is -- we have LOTS of recurring events where the only thing that changes is the host or the location.  Though I've always let anonymous users add events (I just approve them afterward), it's been confusing for them because they want to add a topic or something to an event that's already on the calendar because it's recurring.  And I can't give out editing rights if there's no approval process.  I do set up various accounts, but folks inevitably forget how to log in and the person who knows what the topic or location is changes constantly.  Confusing, eh?  Creates a little bit of a dilemma for me in how to make it easy for folks....

** it's been confusing for them because they want to add a topic or something to an event that's already on the calendar because it's recurring. **

You can't edit one instance of a recurring event regardless. It would have to be 'converted' to a regular event first.

** they want to add a topic or something to an event that's already on the calendar because it's recurring. **

Maybe some customization of the Copy Event plugin or a whole custom plug-in could be created that would let users copy an event, make their changes and then have that new event await approval. If approved, the original event could be deleted?

     BTW. If you want to continue that discussion, please start a new message as it really have nothing to do with the topic this thread is about.
