I've read on the mods/hack site (URL escapes me, but it was excellent) that it is possible to have an e-mail notification sent out (via sendmail()?) for when an event actually triggers or some set period before it as a notification... However, it seems as though in order to get this functionality up and running, you need to have a process running on the web server which polls/checks the system clock and e-mails accordingly when an event achieves maturity and triggers (need CRON job, SSI, etc?).

What happens if I don't have access to a command line on my web host? The host has a web shell, but it's basically just a glorified FTP client and doesn't have that level of control (I can't install PERL modules either   )...

Am I just out luck or is there some other way to add this level of functionality to CalendarScript? I desparately need to find a calendar program which will e-mail reminders and such...  unfortunately, it is a primary requirement for my boss to use any web calendar program over his beloved Outlook.

Any help would be appreciated.

** you need to have a process running on the web server which polls/checks the system clock and e-mails accordingly when an event achieves maturity and triggers (need CRON job, SSI, etc?). **

This is from that plug-in's documentation:

quote:
Faking a Cron Job - if you are unable to set up a cron job, then you might want to check out this free script Fake Cron. It's a nifty script that you can set up by implementing an image call to the script on a frequently visited page on your site. Download the package and follow the instructions.
An alternative would be to fake a cron job yourself by putting the call in a file and manually loading that file yourself  thereby triggering the necessary process(es).

JFYI

PS. I have no personal knowledge of the use of this plug-in. If you experience problems, someone else will have to assist you.
