When on the Admin section and trying to "Customize Event Fields", "Add New Field", I get a "Error on Page" message at the bottom left corner of the browser once I have entered the "Display name".

When I double click on it the error is :
Line 547
Char:2
Error: 'FIELDPROPERTY_id.value' is null or not an object
Code:0
URL:http://www.ycac.or.jp/fpdb/calendar_admin.pl

The rest then does not allow me to save anything. The result is that I cannot add a field.

I am using IE6 latest english version on a Japanese Win2000 OS.

The rest of the script works fine and I have been using it for over three years. I wanted to see If I could add some fields to make it easier to search some activities.

Thank you for your help.

** I get a "Error on Page" message at the bottom left corner of the browser **

That is a JavaScript error message.

** I am using IE6 latest english version on a Japanese Win2000 OS. **

It may be a problem in that browser or OS version. Have you tried any other browsers like a newer version of Netscape/Gecko or Opera?

Other than that you'd have to look through all the JavaScript code on the page to see if you can find and correct what's causing the problem.

Yes, I have intalled the Opera browser as well as Netscape 7.1 both English versions and it still gave me the same error message or would not save the changes with the new browsers.

I have no clue as how to check the JavaScript for a bug....

If anyone has any idea of what the error message means, please shoot !

Well its referring to the form field labeled "Unique Field ID". What do you have entered there when the error occurs?

Well I did not have to fill in anything really for the message to appear. As soon as the cursor leaves the Title field to either position it on the ID field or the Description field, the error message appears. Without typing anything else !

What did you enter into the title field?

CalendarScript retrieves the value of the first field to generate a value for the second. All I can say is that it sounds like something in that function is causing that error. I'm afraid I don't know what that might be.

I have to guess that it is something in the way your operating system is acting, maybe character conversion?? Do you have any friends using a non-Japanese version OS which you can ask to try to make the changes you want for you?

Thank you Dan,

I am inputting simple text as "Test" or "Time" or "Starting time".

I have tried it at home on my computer with an English OS (Win 2000) and an English IE6SP1. I even tried it also at home with Opera English and Netscape 7.1 English. Both did not work. I am really at lost here...

Thank you.

Has it ever worked?

If not, maybe one (or more) of the files got corrupted in the upload, especially the JavaScript files whose file names end in .js but which also need to be uploaded in ascii mode.

I do not remember if it ever worked since I only started to try that function recently. The other functions of the calendar seem to work.
I have downloaded the latest version of 3.2 and extracted the 11 .js files, uploaded them in ASCII and even uploaded the new calendar.pl and calendar_admin.pl.

I still have the same problem ?!?!?!

I am still stuck. Thank you for coping with this.

Well, That's it, now it works !!!!

What I did is to start from scratch and re-install the whole program again. Then I could have the functionality of adding a field to work.
It costed me hours of pain before, and mostly to loose all my previous schedules from the last three years, including the future ones already inputted. (Gasp!) The import function from the saved files did not work.
I really appreciated that you tried to guide me through solving it. I really hope that you did not spend too much time trying to review any code since it appears to have been a corrupted file somewhere on my server.
Thank you again.

Glad to hear it.

** [lost] all my previous schedules from the last three years, including the future ones already inputted. The import function from the saved files did not work. **

If you still have the originals, just replace the new blank events.txt and schedule.txt files with the old ones.
