We have set up a dummy testing environment for this program.  My question is this:  I am trying to import an excel file (.csv) into a calendar, already set up with the appropriate fields.  Creating the fields on the calendar end and Excel is doable, but when trying to export from Excel nothing happens.  The fields are blank on the calendar end.  Is there something else that needs to be done/set up on the calendar end for the data to import correctly.  We are seriously thinking about purchasing this program, it is pretty user friendly but are stuck at this glitch.  Any suggestions, would be appreciated.

** The fields are blank on the calendar end. **

What do you mean by that? Events are created without any data???

Have you checked the events.txt file to see if the event data is there?

** there something else that needs to be done/set up on the calendar end for the data to import correctly. **

As long as you are following the general guidelines (as outlined by Desi at the following link) and modifying them to fit the data you are importing, nothing else should be necessary.

Maybe I am explaining this incorrectly.

This is a project that I am just taking over.

First, I am not a programmer, nor do I understand Perl.  With that stated, I have created fields in Excel.  What I need done is for the designated fields to export over to the fields set up on the calendar program.  Meaning on my spreadsheet, I will input this data and it can be exported over to Excel to the designated fields on the calendar program.  The person before me, created the calendar but was unable to export any data from Excel.  This is the breakdown for myself, as well.  Is this file suppose to be saved as a comma delimited file?  Which I am assuming that is should.  And once in the calendar, just open up this file and the fields will auto populate?  Which I am assuming as well.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

** Is this file suppose to be saved as a comma delimited file? **

It can (but doesn't have to) be but that is the format explained at the link I suggested. Did you read it?

** once in the calendar, just open up this file and the fields will auto populate? **

The file's contents needs to be copied and pasted into the form field as is described at the previous link I suggested. But the header also needs to be inserted (as is described at the previous link I suggested) and each field from header has to be manually matched up with a calendar field name.

Yes, I did read the format you suggested.

As this is still somewhat confusing to me, since it was thrown at me, I am starting to figure it out.

Thank you for your answers.

I am following the guidelines given for importing a file.

First, I have a test file on Excel.  I have my data in all the appropriate fields.  My question for this importing is where is the option to ask for my data to import?  I see the copy and pasting, but that is double work when I have the data set up in Excel.  Example below:

When I get to the copy and paste the events into the contents of the events file (text box), am I suppose to copy my actual data in these fields from my Excel file?  I just want certain information flagged from my created fields to appear on my calendar.

Example:  The user clicks on the data link, say a production number under October 10, 2005.  After clicking, it takes you to the screen where all the information in association to the production number appears.

This is the function I am trying to obtain.  Does a special script need to be written to recognize this data?  To import this data from Excel?  Meaning I am setting up fields for production numbers, dates, times, scheduled/unscheduled events, contact person.  I have all this data in Excel, but I am unable to import this to the calendar program.  If I am missing a step, or need special scripting, let me know.  Because right now I am completely confused and frustrated.

Lastly, when importing my file, where am I importing it to?  Where is the option on this program to bring my data over from Excel?

Any suggestions, information is greatly appreciated.

** My question for this importing is where is the option to ask for my data to import? **

There is none. "Importing" in CalendarScript is accomplished by copying and pasting that data into the form provided.

** I suppose to copy my actual data in these fields from my Excel file? **

If that will produce data in an acceptable format (see the previously linked page for examples). I would think in most cases just copying the spreadsheet cells would NOT produce data in an acceptable format.

** Does a special script need to be written to recognize this data to import this data from Excel? **

No.

If you've exported the wanted data to a .csv file like you previously said you had, than you could copy and paste that file's data into the one form field. You'd still have to make a header line to describe what fields are what name.

** when importing my file, where am I importing it to? **

You're not importing a "file", just its data. When received by CalendarScript in the appropriate format, that data will then be stored in CalendarScript's data files on the server where CalendarScript is installed.
