Is there a way to tell an SSI page to display todays events BUT only up to a certain number?

So for example, say i have room on my page to display just up to 3 events.But on one day there is 5 events, can i tell it to cut off after 3?

You'd likely have to set up some sort of counter in the template that exits the loop once a certain count was reached.
