Is there a mini calendar template available anywhere?

Ideally, I want the mini calendar for the front page, and days with events are links, and no events are not.  There may be a click through to the event description and/or to the larger calendar view.

I just did a trial install and all seems fine but this is eluding me.

Thanks.

Thanks for the link but I looked that over before posting.  I think I will not be using this calendar service.  I'm glad I had an opportuntity to try before buying, but if it requires this much after product tweaking and configuring, then I might as well write my own from scratch - or look at other vendors.  At least that way, it would be doing what I want specifically and not some hacked up version of something intended for something else entirely.  Again, thanks.  But this time around I'm afraid I'll have to pass.

And the "Headlines (SSI)" template was of no use??? I'm surprised as that is exactly what you asked for.

quote:
Headlines (SSI)
These are a set of SSI templates which allow the administrator to display a listing, or a mini-cal, of upcoming events on the home page in a variety of ways which are fully configurable by the administrator. by Kent

There's also the DoubleCal template if that is more what you're looking for.

** if it requires this much after product tweaking and configuring **

It doesn't unless you want to do something with it that is wasn't designed to do. At least most of the add-ons which are available are relatively easy to install and most are free!

** I might as well write my own from scratch **

Good luck!

Sorry, no.  I played around for several hours.  If I were to suggest something, I'd probably recommend developing it as it's own template and be done.

No script can be all things to all people.

Not hard, just time consuming.  I cut my teeth hacking up a ubb and eventually helped build a converter to phpbb.  I've done a few file management scripts and several database things using a few languages including object oriented javascript, perl flat files, and mysql back ends.  A calendar won't be that hard but I was hoping to save the time and bother.  After all, reusing code is the backbone of programming.  I wasn't looking to reinvent the wheel, but it's not the end of the world either.

But be of good cheer.  The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the intentions are first rate.  I've no complaints.

Thanks.

Sorry but I don't know what problem you're having with it. It is a full and complete template meant to be called via SSI and included into your existing web page. If you want to change its layout, that's up to you.

But if you want that mini-cal displayed on the same page all the time, even when viewing event lists or details, the DoubleCal template has those features.

You're saying I should pay for an addon before I pay for a calendar script that isn't doing what I need?

I'll start here instead

I offered that suggestion to help you with your apparent dilemma since you said the mini-cal template which is available for free isn't working the way you like and you're not able to modify it to fit your needs. Although I still don't know what you feel is wrong with it.

Oh well, happy programming.

Hi
when using this add-on (Headlines SSI templates) I get the full calendar on that page.
Thought I just got the events in a list.
Since I can't use SSI I use include.cgi (smarterscripts.com) This works for all my "SSI".
This is the code:
<script src="http://mydomain.com/cgi-bin/executer.cgi?http://my-otherdomain/cgi-bin/calendar.pl"></script>
As I said, I get the calendar, but in whole. Or is that the purpose of this plug-in? Should I point to something different than calendar.pl?
Thanks a lot, Hans

Headlines SSI templates are templates. In order to display the calendar's events on them, you have to tell the calendar.pl script which particular template to use. A simple way is to call your calendar.pl file with the template specified in the query string like:

.../calendar.pl?template=Template_Name_Here.html

** Should I point to something different than calendar.pl? **

If you want to use a template other than the "default.html", you have to tell the script which one to use (see above).
