Move menu items to top or bottom of page?

Has anyone tried moving the left side menu options to the top or bottom of the page? We are trying to reduce the width of the calendar, and have no problem matching that width with our header image, as long as we remove the left side menu options. Then everything has the right width.
If the menu options are there, they push the calendar out past our header/footer images.
We'd really like to put the menu options across the top, above the month.
Just wondering if anyone has done that, or if there is any code available to copy that does that.
Thanks,
DH
