I'm interested in this Plug-In and seeing if it can do what I want. It sounds like it's on the agenda for next year - but I thought I'd check here to make sure.

Does the Meta-Calendar have to be predefined? That is - you set it up ahead of time so that it's based on calendars A and B, or B and C - but the user can't choose which calendars he wants from a list?

I'd like to be able to allow them to choose from a list of available calendars - using checkboxes - and then generate the Meta Calendar that way.

Is that possible now - or does that fit into the "wish-list" category?

** Does the Meta-Calendar have to be predefined? **

Only if you want to use that feature.

** I'd like to be able to allow them to choose from a list of available calendars - using checkboxes - and then generate the Meta Calendar that way. **

It's definitely possible, I don't know that I'll design that capability into it though. It's kind of hard to maintain state between uses with the options not being global. It also could create a sizeable number of extra variables which would need to be tracked, especially for a school, etc. where there's the possibility of thousands of users.

Also, their meta calendar display would not be available to be viewed until the user logged in. They'd just see a blank calendar until then.

I was planning to add a feature though where the user could choose to view just one of the calendars in the meta calendar at a time or to view all but give them the choice to exclude one from what's available. Those would be options which can be made at time of viewing and wouldn't actually need to be defined elsewhere.

If I understand correctly, part of what you are working on is what I would like to see. But just to clarify (and to encourage you to continue) this is what I wish for the next MetaCalendar plug-in.

I am the pastor of 2 churches. I would like to have a couple shared calendars and individual calendars. So people from Church A would see a MetaCalendar made up of Shared, Liturgical, and ChurchA. Then people from Church B would see one of Shared, Liturgical, and ChurchB. And then some people (like me) would need to see everything together plus a personal one. (and if I choose, to let people see what I am doing - the personal one)

And the difference is reflected in the link parameters. So you could choose MetaCalendar combinations like you currently can choose calendars.

There should not be a problem setting up 2 different meta calendars, each with the its own set of included calendars.

I was NOT planning on having separate meta calendars displayed on the same calendar. Eg. The "default" calendar could be one meta calendar, "calendar2" could be another meta calendar, etc.

** So you could choose MetaCalendar combinations like you currently can choose calendars. **

You will be able to by going to the meta calendar defined with appropriate sub calendars.

** And then some people (like me) would need to see everything together plus a personal one. **

If you defined the personal calendar as part of the meta calendar and only give View permissions for the personal calendar to yourself, only you would see the personal events when viewing the meta calendar. If you wanted others to be able to view those personal events too, give them View permissions for the personal calendar.

I am currently recovering from surgery I had in December and this project will likely be delayed at least a month or two from when I hoped to have something available.

I'm getting close to completing this new Meta Calendar 2 plug-in. Hopefully it will be ready in the next week or two.

In the mean time, you can see screen shots of some of its features at the Unofficial CalendarScript - Mods and Plugins site.

JFYI

No. As near as I can remember it is pretty much ready to go but other projects have cropped up in the mean time.

Ok, Geoffrey has been trying out the new Meta Calendar 2 plug-in and it looks fairly stable so I am looking for another tester. The tester must have multiple calendars with plenty of events already on a number of them and I will need to be given full access to all the calendar functions for testing.

If interested, please email me at the address from at the bottom of the Unofficial CalendarScript - Mods and Plugins site. BTW. It may take a week or more before I get back to you as I am involved with other projects at the moment.

Hey Dan O!

I figured that I would offer a follow up on the performance of the MetaCal 2.

It has been about 2 months now that I have been running it and I am pleased to report that we have had no problems.  We have 15 different calendars for 9 different projects.  There are a number of metacalendars composed of various combinations of calendars.

The system as you have it configured is easy to administer, and it has proved to be very stable.

Thanks Dan!

Thanks Geoffrey for the update. Glad to hear it appears stable.

I still haven't got around to looking into the one bug we found or finalizing the code. I'll post here as soon as it is ready.

I'm just waiting to hear back from someone else that is testing an installation. Hopefully not much longer.

Anyone have any any experience with a large number of posts? Or to put it another way, at what level of use does it continue to function reasonably well?
