I'd like to add a banner to my calendar- but my server only supports SSI on .shtml extentions.

i will have to rename default.html to default.shtml

will this have any adverse effects on my calendar?

You don't need to switch the name to default.html, since calendar.pl parses your script, not the server.  This also means you'll have to move some files around and change some code up, so post the code that you would normally put for a banner here, and I'll show you the calendarscript (Perl) equivalent.
