I have run into many problems recently of the type described elsewhere on this board -- was hacked, had to upgrade to 3.21,  provider had chnaged directory structure to prevent future hacks without telling me, provider refuses to hlep with the problem. One aspect of the chnage made was that the "Install.bat" file would not work correctly, so I had to do the update and chnage the permissions by hand. Yuck.

The calendar is working correctly, all the data on it is correct, but I am still unable to add or edit. When I try to edit or add items, I get the message above. In full it reads this way: " MESSAGE TEXT MISSING FOR: TEMPLATE_FILE_DOES_NOT_EXIST" When I try the "Admin" selection, some data loads, but the admin screen does not appear.

Debug.pl reports no problems with the installation.

Can anyone guide me toward the file that needs to be uploaded, replaced, or updated.

The previous message titled "Error: Template File Does Not Exist when Adding Event" covers at least part of your problem. Try the solution posted there and see if it helps with the other.

Thank you for your prompt response.

I reloaded the files in the 'English' directory, using ASCII transfer; doing so did not solve the problem, but it did achieve a different message change. Now it is as follows:

===========================================

                    ERROR:

The template file specified does not exist.

===========================================

Next step?

Which template(s) are you trying to load when the error occurs? Make sure it is present and that the file name is exactly correct.

Once I log in, I can use the Search and Log Out functions, but the other three admin-like options are nonfunctional.

-- When I try Add Event, I get the error message.

-- When I try Edit Events, I get the error message.

-- When I try Admin, some data loads, but no message appears.

I have reloaded the templates/admin/English directory a couple of times and think all files are present. So my guess is that for some reason calendar_admin.pl is addressing the wriong location.

My base directory address in calendar_admin.pl is set the same as that for my calendar.pl: $BASE_DIR = "/home/frs/www/cgi-bin/calendarscript/";

The calendar.pl seems to work faultlessly.

Ideas?

Try going to the main calendar administration menu (not the drop down list). Click the operation you want to perform. Look at the URL in the browser's location window. There should be a part of it like template=Template_Name_Here.html. Make sure that template is in the proper admin directory exactly (same case, etc.) as show in the URL.

Some FTP clients can be set to change the case of file names or even remove the file name extension (and possibly other things). Maybe that happened to you?

Thank you for your patience. Now I think I see what I did wrong.

I did not go through the initial set-up at the main admin menu when I reinstalled, foolishly assuming that having set it up before everything would remian as it was. What a dunce!

Essentially what was happening was that when I selected Edit or Add or Admin from the calendar, the browser was being directed to calendar.pl, not to calendar_admin.pl.

Thank you so much for your help. Everything works fine now.

That would be correct for an upgrade but not a total re-installation. Glad to hear you got it working.
